Tens of thousands of Valencians took to the streets of Valencia again this Saturday to denounce that, a month after DANA, those affected basic needs are still not covered, and ask for the resignation of the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón.
A month after the floods that have caused, for now, 222 fatalities, four people missing and thousands of victims in the province, the protesters have once again expressed their anger and indignation in the streets at the actions of the authorities.
The protest, which according to the Government Delegation has brought together “close to 100,000 people”, is called by the same social entities, civic organizations and unions that organized the one on November 9 to also demand the resignation of the president and that It brought together more people, 130,000 people.
The head of the demonstration, called by 58 entities and supported by another 158, left the Town Hall Square at 6:15 p.m. and arrived an hour later at the Plaza de la Virgen, not being able to do so in front of the Palau de la Generalitat due to three negative reports advising against it (two for safety reasons).
The march passed without incident and with a somewhat longer journey than the first time, with the aim that the large number of people gathered could make the entire journey, but the truth is that when the head of the demonstration reached the end of the demonstration, there were still many people left at the beginning.
During the tour, the participants chanted slogans such as “Mazón resigns”, “Mazón goes to prison”, “The president, to Picassent”, “They are not dead, they are murders”, “Mazón ate, the people drowned”, “They did not warn us in time” or “murderer”.
Led by a banner that read “Mazón resigns”, along with an image of the president face down, the protesters have also carried banners with slogans such as “Mazón, neither forgetting nor forgiveness”, “We are not all here, those you have drowned are missing” or “Mazón, more because a high chair“(Mazón is scarier than a storm).
An hour after leaving the Town Hall square, The header has reached the Plaza de la Virgen, where they have been received with applause, and where a manifesto has been read, preceded by the reading of the number of deaths town by town.
An affected person from Algemesí and a 112 worker have read the text and have denounced that a month after the catastrophe “the affected people live immersed in a bureaucratic maelstrom and endless queues that prevent real access to resources.”
“The abuse is evidenced by the fact that at this point many of these people do not have their basic needs covered: no essential supplies, no housing, nor guaranteed public transportation, nor schools in good condition,” they have highlighted.
They have considered “the militarization of the Generalitat government is unacceptable”and have pointed out that Mazón “cannot lead the reconstruction or repair of what has been undone by his criminal irresponsibility and apathy.”
In this sense, they have demanded his resignation and that of his Consell for “not knowing how to rise to the occasion”; the rethinking of economic policies; the activation of specific measures for territorial planning and climate change, and the adoption and consideration of the right to housing as one of the central priorities of this change of direction.
They have also asked to initiate ex officio the judicial procedure that determines and purifies the responsibilities for “the avoidable consequences of the catastrophe.”
At the same time, They have criticized the central government, “that he should have forcefully and immediately put pressure on the Valencian Government in the face of its inaction to intervene with all available troops and help citizens rebuild their lives.”
Once the protest was over and faced with the impossibility of accessing the streets that lead to the Palau de la Generalitat, the protesters have opted to place their banners on the fence that surrounds the garden of this buildingas well as muddy boots, brooms or protective equipment, and they have thrown mud against the garden fence.
Beatriu Cardona, one of the four spokespersons for the organizing entities, has stated that with this second demonstration “it is clear that we have an illegitimate and illegitimate president of the Generalitat. That is why we demanded the resignation of Mazón yesterday, today and tomorrow.”
For her part, Mar Bueno, another spokesperson, has considered that the “success has been undeniable and the massive attendance is just an example of the self-management capacity of the Valencian people, after the disastrous management, before, during and after.” The organizers have indicated that the attendance has been higher than the protest on November 9, although without offering figures .
“We are here because the help is not arriving, only distributing money among friends of Mazón,” Bueno defended, while Anna Oliver, another of the spokespersons, has claimed that it is “impossible to govern with this rejection.”
For this reason, they have assured that the organizing entities of this massive concentration will continue “working until there is truth, justice and reparation for the victims” and They have advanced that “whatever is necessary” will continue to be called.
The organization platform The conveners are made up, among others, of Acció Cultural del País Valencià, Acció Ecologista-Agró, the student union Bloc d’ Estudiantents Agermanats (BEA), CGT, CNT, Comissió Ciutat-Port, CC OO-PV, Koordinadora de Kolectivos del Parke Alcosa, Lambda, PAH València or Per l’Horta or the SPTV union.
This demonstration, which has been supported by other protests in Alicante or Elcheoccurred a day after thirty municipalities affected by the DANA of the Comunitat took to the streets on the afternoon that marked a month since the tragedy to also demand the resignation of Mazón, for his “disastrous management “during the emergency.
