Djokovic’s visa was revoked again on Friday, but a new appeal will be heard on Sunday.

Tennis star Novak Djokovicin the visa saga continues in Australia. Although the Minister for Immigration Alex Hawke revoked a Serbian visa again on Thursday, it didn’t mean Djokovic would miss an Australian open tennis tournament starting next Monday. The matter is being re-examined in court.

Hawke justified the revocation of the visa on the grounds that an unvaccinated Djokovic could “pose a risk to the community” and that the decision was made in the public interest.

On Friday, Djokovic’s lawyers claimed the reason was that Djokovic could “arouse anti-vaccination feelings”.

Djokovic originally got into trouble when he arrived in Australia because he hasn’t taken a coroner vaccination. Djokovic said he contracted a corona infection in December and thus would have a medical exception not to take the vaccine.

Djokovicin lawyers appealed the decision of the Australian government and, in practice, Hawke on Friday.

The progress of the complaint was decided late Friday night at Australian time.

According to the news agency Reuters, the player’s lawyers demanded that the complaint be handled and the decision be held on Sunday to allow him to play in the Australian Open and aim for a historic 21st grand slam victory.

The lawyers’ claim was at least partially met. The hearing is on Sunday, but contrary to what the lawyers would have liked, the trial changed.

Djokovic’s first appeal was heard in the Federal District Court, but a new appeal is pending in the Federal Court. This can slow down processing.

Before Djokovic is interviewed by immigration authorities. This will take place on Saturday morning at 8am Australian time. Djokovic will then be transferred to an as-yet-unnamed place where he will be allowed to visit his attorneys ’office on Saturday.
