For four games specialized Harri Heliövaara advanced to the semifinals of the men’s tennis ATP doubles tournament in Moscow. Heliövaara and his Dutch couple Matwe Middelkoop defeated the Russian pair in the quarterfinals Karen Hatshanov/Andrei Rublev 6–4, 2–6, 10–7.
“It was a pretty tough match mentally. My own game didn’t really start rolling at any point. Fortunately, my partner was iron, ”Heliövaara said in a statement from the Tennis Association.
“However, as a whole this is a warming performance, having such a scalp still in their home field.”
Hatshanov and Rublev are world leaders in doubles, and Rublev in particular is playing a great year after becoming the top ten on the ATP list for the first time.
In Moscow an ATP 250 level tournament is played. Rublev was placed number one in the tournament doubles, but the retriever came surprisingly in the second round when the French Adrian Mannarino won 5-7, 7-6, 6-3.
The semi-final resistance between Heliövaara and Middelkoop will be resolved on Friday.
