Everything slows down in the fall. The garden is slowly but surely declining. Only the ornamental grasses are now at their best, after you have had to wait six months for them. You also become slower yourself; you tend to think that most of the garden work is done by now. None of that. You may be able to sit back in December, but now there is still a lot to do: planting bulbs, tearing perennials, collecting seeds – the list is long.
