Television review The idea doesn’t always show up – The documentary series Suomineidot presents three very different nationalist women

The series follows women in their daily lives without commenting on it.

To the extreme the face of hostile nationalism is very masculine in public. In nationalist movements, women are a minority, but the masculine image of the movements is certainly also due to the fact that women are reluctant to express their opinions, for example for family reasons.

A four-part documentary series shot last summer Finnish girls gives nationalism to a woman’s face. Its three young women represent diversity and stereotypes, avoiding the spectrum of nationalists.

As seen in the series Jasmina Ollikainen26, states: “Not everyone is a skinny woman in log shorts who listens to some rhyming music or goes to those demonstrations.”

Ollikainen’s priority is Finnish nature and impiviality. A woman studying history and museology dreams of writing. The series follows what was published last August Linkola’s legacy –the completion of an essay book in which Ollikainen participated.

In their opinions the steepest put represents the truck driver Sea Map, 31. The woman who fits into her White Lives Matter shirt is an ethnonationalist. The map takes part in the nationalist summer party, where the hand rises to the upside-down greeting as the band plays. The series follows the transition of the map, which belongs to the basic Finns, to blue-black circulation.

Russian language student Elisaveta or Liisa Siira, 21, is a dual citizen. Finnishness is a matter of the heart for him, and he is, for the first time, a candidate for the municipal elections of basic Finns. It is difficult to find a like-minded man, because in general the people of Sira are more liberal than him.

Otherwise, quite different women are united by value conservatism. Another unifying factor for women is that everyone is afraid of their mothers ’reaction to participating in the series.

Finnish girlsseries director Ninni Rokosa has managed to get on women’s skin. The series listens and follows their main characters in their daily lives without commenting. The series is also a follow-up document in the sense that women’s opinions are not challenged in any way.

Rocosa (mm. Female soldiers2017–) has said she wanted to Finnish girlsseries to increase understanding. The understanding arises mainly from the diversity of nationalists. The idea does not always show up. Some background is given to the way of thinking of women, even if the bigger picture does not open up.

Finnish girls raises the topical question of the limits of tolerance. Where is it justified to set some limits on tolerance as well?

Suomineidot, TV2 at 9.55 pm and Yle Areena.
