Television review Mysterious taxi company offers revenge services instead of rides – The action of the cartoon-based thriller is straightforward and the characters are caricatures

The sixteen-part opening season of the South Korean Taxi Driver Series is well oversized.

I was wrong sometimes to think that Americans are the worst to flood car pornography into movies and TV series. Taxi Driver series, South Koreans are at least on the same line. In the tension series, the throttle foot is sensitive and the camera licks the damper from almost every possible angle. The corn synth synthesizes the right mood.

Taxi Driver (2021–) is based on what was originally published for smartphones Carlosin and Lee Jae-Jinin to the cartoon. A certain comic nature also shines through in the TV series: the action is extremely straightforward and the characters are caricatures.

Series the engine is revenge. Under the auspices of the Blue Bird Organization, which helps victims of crime, there is a taxi company whose business idea is not so much to transport people as to take the right into their own hands. Anyone who wants revenge can turn to the Rainbow taxi.

Although revenge stems from personal experience, taxi drivers are seeking a broader justification for their actions. “Society creates monsters,” says Jang Sung-Chul, the group’s boss (Kim Eui-Sung).

To the group recruiting Kim Do-gi (Lee Je-hoon), which is the true legacy of the avenger: quiet, efficient and traumatized. Of course, the team also includes one skilled hacker (Pyo Ye-Jin) as well as nonsense ubiquitous planers.

Almost all of the avengers have a tragedy behind them, explaining their joining the gang. Thus, personal revenge seems to be their motive as well, no matter how different an attempt is made to argue to the viewer.

In the opening session, the taxi angels of revenge punish the sex offender released from prison and the villains who had tortured a young woman with a developmental disability.

While the Avengers take care of their business in secret, the authorities are gradually beginning to find their way. This results in a rather schematic plot alongside the revenge itself.

Is as such, it is welcome that content originating in countries other than Europe or North America will be shown on the linear television side. Still, the opening season of as much as sixteen parts is well oversized based on at least the first couple of episodes.

Some sort of cult acclaim for the series might be put off if the world of TV and streaming was already full of even higher quality bulk.

The special activities of the taxi company arouse the interest of Kang Ha-nan (Esom), who works at the prosecutor’s office.
