Democratic Senator Gary Hart was becoming his party’s presidential candidate in the spring of 1987. The goal-oriented and idealistic politician did not want to talk about his marriage. In the end, suspicions of side-jumping caused him to suspend his campaign.

The film follows side by side the everyday hectic of both the campaign and the media competing for stories. Time and perspectives are conveyed clearly, but the execution remains dramaturgically even and unsurprising in its nuances.

Senator female friend Donna Rice (in role Sarah Paxton) has thanked the filmmakers for their understanding approach to their young character. One female campaigner says that Rice would never get rid of the stigma brought by the case.

Of course, the comment also refers to the later president Clinton’s I belong to the other side of the secret relationship. Not everyone is interested in political history. Maybe some also wanted it not to be interesting.
