Tel Aviv has surpassed Paris (France) and Hong Kong (China), becoming the most expensive city in the world to live this year. On December 1, the newspaper reports. Jerusalem Post citing the study “The cost of living in the world in 2021”, prepared by analysts of the British Economist Group, which was conducted among 173 cities around the world.
According to the publication, last year Tel Aviv was the fifth most expensive city after Paris, Hong Kong, Osaka (Japan) and Geneva (Switzerland).
The rise of the metropolis to the first position in the ranking this year is explained by the prolonged growth in the exchange rate of the Israeli shekel against the US dollar, as well as the increase in the cost of food and travel in public transport.
According to JP data, on average, prices for goods and services in the city rose 3.5% in local currency, up from 1.9% growth in 2020.
Earlier, on November 30, it became known that Moscow was recognized as the leader in antique innovation among European cities. It was clarified that the Russian capital took first place in Europe in the rating of innovations in terms of resistance to coronavirus, as well as first place in innovations in the fight against COVID-19. When compiling the rating, the calculation took into account the number and type of innovations that helped the world’s cities to fight infection, adapt to pandemic challenges, and support environmental and social principles.
