The former minister and pre-candidate of Podemos for the presidency, Sérgio Moro, and senator Simone Tebet (MDB-MS), pre-candidate of the MDB, defended this Friday, 18, that the names of the center join in the 1st round around a single candidacy. Both defended that the polls of voting intention and the rejection rate should be used as criteria for the definition of the chosen one. But despite the unity speech, the Podemos pre-candidate said he will go “to the end” in the presidential race and will remain in the party.
“I’m going until the end. Someone has to speak the truth in 2022”, he told journalists, upon arriving for a lunch-debate with businessmen organized by Lide (Group of Business Leaders), which also had the participation of senator and political scientist Luiz Felipe d’Avila, pre-candidate of the New.
“Without a doubt, it is possible to unite the center to the conventions. How to evaluate? With research, quantitative and qualitative. Not only the voting intention poll, but also seeing that one has the lowest rejection rate,” Tebet told reporters at the end of the event.
Also according to the senator, the right time to choose the candidate for this bloc is in May.
“Many pre-candidates will meet,” said the parliamentarian. “I believe that it is possible to walk with a single candidacy from the democratic center still in the 1st round.”
Moro stated that there is “convergence” between the projects of the so-called democratic center.
“Ideally, this union should take place as soon as possible,” said the former magistrate. “We have to consider several factors (for the choice of name). The most fundamental is the pre-candidate that is at the front of the polls. We must unite around a more competitive name, and polls must be taken into account.”
In the Ipespe poll released this Friday, 18, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) maintained the lead in voting intentions, followed by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The PT appeared with 43%, against 25% of the current president. The result is close to the December survey (44% to 24%). Moro and Ciro Gomes (PDT) had 8%, and João Doria (PSDB), 3%.
“Voting intention or rejection survey? You have to see what the criteria are. Is popularity one of the elements to be defined?”, asked d`Avila.
Earlier this week, the presidents of the MDB, Baleia Rossi, of the PSDB, Bruno Araújo, and of União Brasil, Luciano Bivar, met to resume talks on a possible alliance or formation of a party federation.
Moro complained that there is a lot of speculation about his name. In recent weeks, Podemos deputies began to pressure the party to withdraw from the candidacy, which would drain resources from the party fund. União Brasil also raises the possibility of launching Moro, but the idea divides the acronym.
