The iconic statue is one of the most famous sculptures in Western art history.
However, a parent argued that the material was pornographic and two others expressed that they wanted to know more about the class before it was delivered.
The 5.17 meter high statue represents David, the biblical figure who killed the giant Goliath, completely naked.
The class, taught to 11- and 12-year-olds, also included references to the “Creation of Adam.”part of the Sistine Chapel fresco painted by Michelangelo, and Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus.”
Chancellor Hope Carrasquilla said she had resigned after receiving an ultimatum from the school board to resign or be fired.

Local media reported that Carrasquilla did not know the reason for the request to resign, but believed it was related to the complaints about the class.
But in an interview with the Huffington Post, Carrasquilla noted that after a decade in classical education, she knew that “every once in a while there’s a parent who gets annoyed with Renaissance art.” However, he never thought that he would end up losing his job because of it.
The media also reported that Carrasquilla had held the position of rector for less than a yearand she is the third rector to have passed through the classrooms since the school’s inauguration in 2020.
conservative institution

The institution is affiliated with Hillsgate College, a private conservative college in Michiganthat advocates a return to the fundamental principles of Western civilization.
In an interview with the US media Slate, the director of the school board, Bareny Bishop III, said that last year the rector had sent a note to parents warning them that students would be watching Michelangelo’s David, but that He did not do the same this year.
Bishop called that omission a “blunder” and said “parents have the right to know at all times that their children are being taught controversial topics and images.”

“We are not going to show the complete statue of David to preschoolers. We’re not going to show it to the second graders. Showing the complete statue of David is appropriate in some age. We’re going to determine which one it is,” Bishop said.
The situation occurs at a time when the state of Florida is the hot spot for new conservative education legislation, under the current government.
On Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took the lead in expanding a law that prohibits public schools from teaching sex education and gender identity.
Teachers who violate that law face suspension or loss of teaching license.
The David was completed by Michelangelo between 1501 and 1504. It was immediately hailed as a masterpiece, with Renaissance artist Giorgio Vasari declaring that The David “surpassed” any statue that had existed before.
In In 1857, Queen Victoria of England donated a copy of The David to the museum in London that would bear her name.; Victoria & Albert Museum. When she first saw the copy, she was so disturbed by the nudity that she commissioned a plaster fig leaf to cover the statue’s genitalia.

The museum’s website says they had the sheet “ready in case of any royal visit, when they hung it over the figure using two strategically placed hooks.”
