The world of TCR will also take a technological step forward by introducing hybrid systems in view of the 2023 season.
The WSC Group promoter has in fact begun to work on a ‘Mild Hybrid’ kit for all touring cars approved according to the canons of the series.
An anticipation of this was given by the head of the FIA WTCR, Xavier Gavory, in the interview granted to Motorsport.com at the beginning of November, explaining that the World Cup would not have made changes to electric for its evolution, but preferring hybrid systems.
This is because we want – rightly – to keep the competitions for traditional machines separate from the electric ones, which are included in the ETCR.
Therefore, Marcello Lotti’s men will provide a plug-in system that can be installed in all the machines of the manufacturers that have their respective TCR models in production.
This can be added to the heat engine providing additional power ranging between 20 and 30 kW, recovered in the braking and deceleration phases.
This will happen already this year, in anticipation of a debut of a Hybrid TCR (HTCR) in view of 2023, with development tests that can start already at the end of this month, giving everyone the opportunity to better prepare for the evolution of the next season.
