Taranto, disabled girl abused for two years on a bus: eight drivers under investigation
Aggravated sexual violence against a 20-year-old disabled girl: this is the crime for which eight drivers of the Taranto public transport company are being investigated. They are between 40 and 62 years old and, according to the prosecution, they allegedly abused the young woman for almost two years, burdened by a slight but evident mental illness, already a victim of sexual violence by a neighbor at the age of 14. There are two aggravating factors: having acted on a person subject to limitations of personal freedom and having committed the offense in the capacity of a public service officer. In fact, almost always, according to the reconstructions, the acts of violence took place right on the buses, to which the drivers closed the doors to prevent the victim from getting off.
According to the allegations, some of the drivers would have limited themselves to groping, others would have had complete sexual intercourse from October 2018, when the girl was barely 18, until April 2020. A period in which according to the accusation the girl had become something of a sex toy for use as a vent between the bus seats. The investigating magistrate Francesco Maccagnano, to whom the prosecutor had asked for house arrest for the eight drivers, but who considered the ban on approaching the girl and her boyfriend to be sufficient. It was he who convinced the girl to file a complaint in June last year.
