Mani Pulite, the suicide of Cagliari and the missives of San Vittore in the son’s book “My father’s story”
It all began, in 1992, with the arrest of the President of the Pio Albergo Trivulzio in Milan, Mario Chiesawhile pocketing a wad. Craxi, who had named him, dismissed him: “He’s just a rogue”.
Chiesa – who is 75 years old, while Bettino died 22 years ago in Hammamet – was offended. And she spilled the beans.
In a plastic bag Gabriele CagliariSocialist President of ENI, put his head in, committing suicide, after 4 months of preventive detention in San Vittore.
On July 14, 1993, Cagliari made a confession, that met the expectations of the prosecutor, Fabio De Pasquale (that is: he mentioned Craxi) and the magistrate – who is now 63 years old, from Messina, in the judiciary since 1984, disliked by Di Pietro – explained to the lawyers that the prisoner would soon leave the prison. The magistrate changed his mind the next day but he did not even warn the defense. He just passed on an opinion to the investigating judge, once again negative, and someone warned the journalists. The day after, the Cagliari lawyer learned from the radio that the prosecutor had renounced his promise and that the next day he would leave for the holidays, in Taormina.
The news of Cagliari’s suicide shocked the Milanese courthouse.

The latter, however, in one of the farewell letters written to his wife, before killing himself, he used hard words towards the work of investigating magistracy: “The conviction, which I have made, is that the magistrates consider prison nothing more than a tool of work, of psychological torture, where the practices can mature or become moldy, indifferently, even if it is the skin of the people “.
