Taliban, money to the families of the suicide bombers. The war is not over
The war in Afghanistan is not over. The signal came yesterday, come on Taliban in Kabul, where Interior Minister Haqqani has decided to organize a large ceremony to celebrate the suicide bombers, considered martyrs, offering money to their families as a reward. A gesture of defiance – reads the Corriere della Sera – towards the United States and the 51 countries (including Italy) that participated in military missions in the country from October 2001 to last summer. But also yet another sign of clash between the most extremist soul and the moderate currents of the Taliban movement. For the relatives of the approximately 3,580 coalition soldiers killed in the last twenty years (including 2,420 Americans and also about fifty Italians) all this awakens painful memories.
There were times – continues the Corriere – in which attacks were on the agenda. The Taliban today aim to distance themselves from Al Qaeda and Isis. The choice of Haqqani raises many doubts in Kabul. The new government remains divided between the movementist soul, ideally linked to the pan-Islamic jihad aimed at enhancing the sacrifices of the war against the Americans to cement national unity, and instead that concerned with managing a complex country and eager to be accepted by the international community. .
