A few weeks ago we found out that Take Two was proposing to shut down Roll7 – the team known for OlliOlli and Rollerdrome – and the team Intercept Games, creator of Kerbal Space Program 2. The information had arrived via Bloomberg, but Take-Two had essentially refused to confirm the closure of the teams. Now, comes confirmation that the company was simply avoiding saying what was happening.
Quinn Duffy of Intercept Games has in fact shared a post on LinkedIn where he explains that the entire team will be fired on June 28th, including him. Duffy is the Game Director of Kerbal Space Program 2.
Duffy’s words on the closure of Intercept Games
“Well, here we go again. The Intercept Games team will be laid off starting June 28th, so a large group will be out looking for their new roles. Me too.”
“I got to know the designers quite well during my too short period of work. It’s about extraordinarily intelligent people and talented and I am happy to vouch for their qualities. And I can say the same about the other sections of the team: good people across the board.”
“Kerbal Space Program 2 is a delightful, deeply engaging, and incredibly beautiful game even in Early Access status, and I hope you get a chance to check it out. For science!”
Meanwhile, Kerbal Space Program 2 has immediately review bombing on Steam, after the public found out the team was shutting down. Now we have official confirmation and it is likely that the project will be abandoned. We also know that Intercept Games was working on a new “science” adventure game, but it’s clear that it will never be developed.
