In his first Olympic participation, the taekwondo player Lucas Guzmán will seek a bronze medal. The chance to go for gold was snatched by the European champion, the Italian Vito Dell’Aquila, who beat him 29-10 in a tough semi-final.
To get there, the Pan American champion in Lima 2019 had beaten Irish Jack Irl Woolley 22-19 and Iranian Armin Iri Hadipour Seighalani by a resounding 26-6 just a short time before the fight with Dell’Aquila, the second seed, who from the beginning showed his superiority and did not give the Merlo native too many options.
Although he will not be able to imitate that historical gold medal of the Corrientes Sebastián Crismanich in the 2012 London Olympic Games -where Argentine taekwondo got his first Olympic medal-, Guzmán will go for the podium from 8.45am (Argentine time).
The Argentine achieved his qualification for Tokyo 2020 in the Costa Rican Pre-Olympic held in March of last year and for which he prepared for four months. Before, it had been Gold in Lima 2019 and bronze in the Manchester World Cup of the same year.
