At least 36 people have been killed and more than 50 injured in a bombing in the Syrian city of Palmyra, which the country’s authorities attribute to Israel. According to the official Syrian news agency, SANA, the attack targeted several buildings in that town, located in the desert that occupies the center and east of the Arab country.
The SANA agency – which, as is usual in these cases, cites an anonymous military source – has reported that the bombing occurred at 1:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday and that it was launched from the Al Tanf area, in the border between Syria and Iraq, where the United States has a military base. In addition to the victims, the attack has caused significant material damage to the buildings hit and their surroundings, according to SANA.
Israel has not yet announced any bombardment against Syria, although, in recent weeks, it has considerably increased its attacks against the neighboring Arab country – especially against the capital, Damascus, and its surroundings, as well as the Al Quseir area, bordering Syria. Lebanon and from where the Israeli Army assures that the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah obtains weapons.
The attacks have caused dozens of victims, including civilians, and according to Israeli forces, they are directed against Hezbollah weapons warehouses and senior officials of Palestinian groups, although the authorities denounce that many of these bombings have directly hit residential areas.
