This October 20, two sticky bombs detonated in an Army transport as it was traveling through the center of Damascus, taking the lives of at least 14 people. The authorities have not determined if they are civilians or military, but have warned that the number of fatalities could increase due to the number of seriously injured. This fact cuts three years without attacks in the Syrian capital.
In Syria, terrorist events were reactivated after this Wednesday, October 20, a military bus exploded in the center of Damascus. The detonation of the two sticky bombs left 14 people dead and several seriously injured.
According to the official Syrian agency SANA, this attack is the first in three years in the capital of the Arab country. Two devices were “previously located” in the vehicle that was detonated in the early hours of the morning when it was traveling downtown, in an area near the Al Raes bridge.
The official agency described this as a “terrorist attack”, although it did not point to any particular group or movement.
There was a third bomb that the security and engineering forces defused before the attackers set off.
Among the 14 victims and the wounded, it was not yet clear whether they are military or civilian members. However, the event occurred in a residential area of Damascus, where a significant number of vehicles travel.
For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a non-governmental organization that has its headquarters in the United Kingdom, warned that the current number of deaths could increase considerably due to the large number of committed injuries.
In comments with the state media, Interior Minister Mohamad Al-Rahman assured that they will pursue the “terrorists who committed this heinous crime, wherever they are.”
The capital of the Arab nation had not experienced such incidents for three years, when troops loyal to the government regained control of Eastern Ghouta, a vital region of the opponents, on the outskirts of the main city. The only attacks it suffered at that time were shelling by Israeli planes.
The current situation in Syria shows a large part of the national territory controlled from Damascus and the last traces of the armed opposition in Idlib and Aleppo province. The decade of intense conflict has recorded hundreds of thousands of deaths.

The United Nations humanitarian agency detailed that the boys were heading to school on Wednesday when the attack hit them. “Today’s violence is another reminder that the war in Syria has not ended. Civilians, including many children, continue to bear the brunt of a brutal decade-long conflict, ”they said in a statement.
The rescuers, witnesses and medical workers, assured that among the 30 injured people there were several schoolchildren. The attack came shortly after the bombs detonated in Damascus.
