A wild record improvement in the 100-meter backstroke brought the short track from the European Championships to fifth place. Kira Toussaint from the Netherlands swam to the European Championship gold.
Mimosa Jallow has improved Finland’s 100-meter backstroke record to 56.81 in the European Short Track Championships in Russia. Jallow finished fifth in the European Championship final of the trip.
Jallow was the first Finnish woman to fall below the 57-second limit in the 25-meter pool. Yesterday, he swam the previous SE time of the trip 57.23, so in the final the result improved dramatically by 0.42 seconds.
“I don’t even know what I’m thinking. I couldn’t believe anything like that. Before swimming, I thought that if I even get close to yesterday’s SE time, then I’m happy. I’m really glad to be able to fight along a hundred yards this way and still on a short track. Yes, this promises super good for a long track, ”Jallow rejoiced in the Swimming Federation’s press release.
European Championship gold ui Holland Kira Toussaint with a time of 55.76. The championship was his third in the Kazan Games. The bronze shone with a time of 56.40, so Jallow was 0.41 seconds behind the medal pace.
“I was really excited to leave tonight, and the body was really stuck. I thought in advance that I was going hard and I hope the last spike (25 meters) will come from there. I was able to leave hard but relaxed. When you just let go, yes it comes from there. Now it feels really bad in the body, ”Jallow said after getting out of the pool.
For Jallow, the final swim was second and Finland’s record third in Kazan. On Friday night, he swam in the 50-meter backstroke final for fifth with an SE time of 26.33.
