Swede who surrendered at Azovstal was charged with mercenarism in the DPR
Investigators of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) have charged a Swedish citizen who surrendered at the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol with participating in hostilities as part of the Ukrainian armed formations as mercenaries. “A criminal case has been initiated against a citizen of Sweden, charges have been brought under Article 430 of the Criminal Code of the DPR (“Mercenary”). Investigative actions are underway with the accused,” the source explained, without specifying the name of this mercenary.
It is also indicated that the agency does not have official comments from the law enforcement agencies of the DPR.
On June 9, the DPR Supreme Court sentenced three foreign mercenaries to death. The verdict was passed against 48-year-old Briton Sean Pinner and his 28-year-old compatriot Aiden Aslin, as well as 21-year-old Moroccan Saadoun Brahim. They were charged with mercenarism, violent seizure of power, as well as the commission of a crime by a group of people.
