Haas in trouble
On the eve of free practice for the Japanese Grand PrixKevin Magnussen had been very clear about the difficulties he might encounter Haas on the occasion of the fourth round of the world championship: “Suzuka doesn't seem to be a suitable track for us.” Judging by the Dane's result at the end of FP1, the thought seems to have been confirmed in 19th place, which did not improve in FP2 only due to the rain which forced many drivers to stay in the pits.
The obstacles for Magnussen
Beyond the ranking, Magnussen actually underlined several difficulties encountered during the morning in Suzuka, and which could recur tomorrow especially in case of bad weather: “I don't think we started the day well with the balancingwe had a lot understeer and we tried to correct it during FP1 – has explained – we probably needed one more significant modification of the structure, so we changed the rear wing and also other things, so I would have liked to try them in FP2, but the session was interrupted by rain. It was too dry to go out on intermediates and too wet to go out on dry tyres, so we couldn't race. Let's hope FP3 is dry tomorrow before qualifying and, if so, there won't be any problems.”
Hülkenberg's fears
Problems that did not however torment Nico Hülkenberg's session, who however did not seem optimistic for the rest of the weekend: “FP1 went well, the car wasn't bad, but I think our expectations for this weekend are that it will be a difficult track for us with the high speeds and rapid changes of direction – He admitted – a shame about the weather, especially for the fans who are so enthusiastic in Suzuka. They show so much love and support, and for us to not be able to give them a full show is a little sad, so I feel bad about that. In FP2 it was neither dry nor wet, it was the worst session for the Formula 1 cars. Let's hope we can find some performance during the night. Hopefully we can find some performance overnight, but we need to see what we can do in terms of runs and times.”
