Law enforcement officers identified and detained two suspects in the attempt on the life of a retired volunteer in Nizhny Tagil, Sverdlovsk region. Senior assistant to the head of the regional department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia, Alexander Shulga, told Lenta.ru about this.
According to the investigation, on the night of October 1, unknown persons set fire to the doors of an apartment in a building on Krasnoarmeyskaya Street, where a 78-year-old retired volunteer who collects humanitarian aid lives. She received burns and was hospitalized. A criminal case has been opened for attempted murder and intentional damage to property.
Two natives of the Russian city, born in 2005 and 2006, were identified and detained. The issue of choosing a preventive measure against them will be resolved in the near future.
As the head of the press service of the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Valery Gorelykh clarified, young people have not previously been brought to criminal responsibility. They claim that they did not know that the house they were trying to burn down was inhabited by an elderly woman who was providing assistance to Special Military Operations (SVO) soldiers.
Previously, the prosecutor’s office challenged the extension of the arrest of two accused of beating a participant in a special operation. The incident occurred in the Vasileostrovsky district of St. Petersburg. Suspects Roman Lakashia and Irakli Munchava beat a veteran of the Northern Military District, after which they were detained by the police. The investigation initially charged them with hooliganism, but later brought charges of extremism and attempted murder.
