According to what was reported by the EFE agency, what those in charge of caring for the monkeys, of the species Saguinus imperator, never imagined is that the primates were some 14 miles away, in an empty church in the city of Lancaster, in the county of Dallas.
Authorities had offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the monkeys, also known as marmosets.
For this fact, the police arrested a man suspected of kidnapping the two monkeys. This person was identified as David Irvin, 24, and authorities arrested him last Thursday night. when she received information that he was at the Dallas Aquarium, near the animal exhibits.
Dallas police released a photograph of a young man wearing sneakers, black pants and a dark hooded jacket as he strolled through the 106-acre (43-hectare) park.
Irvin, who now faces six counts of animal abuse, was held in a Dallas jail.
