While the Formula 1 driver market awaits the final choices of the teams for the 2022 season to be completed, a surprise news comes from overseas. One of the most interesting talents of European motoring, Callum Ilott, will debut in IndyCar on September 12th in the Portland race. Ilott, 22 years old from Cambridge who finished second last year in the F2 championship behind Mick Schumacher, has in fact made an agreement with the team Juncos Hollinger Racing. The team is just born and will play the last three events of this season in anticipation of taking part in the championship next year.

The young Ferrari ‘school’, who this year is officially the third Prancing Horse driver, had come close to entering the Circus this season, but in the end the Maranello team had chosen to promote Schumacher to Haas. The Portland race will be an intriguing opportunity for Ilott to show off, hoping to attract some prestigious seats in 2022. “This will be the first time I will be racing in IndyCar and in the United States – Ilott commented on the sidelines of the announcement – and it will be a change from racing in Europe. I am looking forward to working with the team during this first phase of their development and I am proud to have the opportunity to be part of this nascent project. I would like to thank the Ferrari Driver Academy for allowing me to take this opportunity and to Ricardo Juncos and Brad Hollinger for bringing me aboard the team.“.
