Juarez City.– The National Electoral Institute (INE) shared on its social networks how to process or update the voter credential in case you are outside the country and the document was about to expire, lost or stolen abroad.
The process is free and can be carried out at the 147 Mexican consulates and embassies in 81 countries.
Three documents are required: the first that proves nationality, a photo identification and proof of address, which does not matter if it is in the name of the owner.
If you do not have a birth certificate, or it is altered, mutilated, laminated or not legible, you can purchase a new birth certificate at https://www.gob.mx/actas or in the registration module. Civil Registry of the Consulate, as long as it is in the system. If you require the printing of your birth certificate through the Consulate’s Civil Registry module, it is suggested to arrive at the facilities up to one hour before the appointment.
Then, you must call toll-free if you are in the United States and Canada at 1(424)309-0009, or through their online system: cita.sre.gob.mx and go to the nearest consulate.
Once your visit to the consulate is confirmed, you must review all the information and make sure it is correct. Sign the application. You will receive a receipt with a folio number that is important to keep to verify the status of the procedure in the Consultation System. Once the process is validated, the voting credential will be sent to your home by courier.
When the document arrives, it is necessary to confirm that it was received in order to avoid misuse. In addition, doing so will be valid so that you can vote and identify yourself. Once received, you must call the number on the envelope to validate it.
