Speaking with Famitsu, Japanese magazine, the creator of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Masahiro Sakurai – spoke of the arrival of Sora in the game and how this was partly possible by pure luck. Initially, Sakurai didn’t have much faith that this could happen.
As we know, Sora was one of the most requested characters for Super Smash Bros. for a long time. However, he is a character linked to both Square Enix and Disney, so receiving the rights to use the Kingdom Hearts hero was somewhat complex. Sakurai, in a text translated from Japanese to English, states that “during a certain event” he met a Disney representative who said that having Sora in the game would be great.
From there a whole series of business negotiations, both externally to obtain Sora’s license, and internally to expand the second Fighter Pass which originally should have contained only 5 new characters: the last one would have to be Kazuya of Tekken.
The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team had to follow a lot guidelines and respect the expectations of the parties having the rights to Sora. Even just creating his polygonal model was complex. That said, every effort paid off: the arrival of the character prompted many to buy the game.
Finally, here is the analysis of Sora, the last fighter of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
