Nintendo Direct tonight, October 6, 2022, was all about Super Mario Bros. The Movieas had already been announced by Nintendo, which on this occasion showed the first official trailer of the animated film produced in collaboration with Illumination.
With protagonist Chris Pratt to give the voice to the protagonist Mario and Charlie Day in the role of Luigi, the film tells a story in full Mariesque style, with supporting characters the classic characters of the Nintendo series such as Peach, Toad and various other characters typical of the Mushroom Kingdom, as well as obviously Bowser, the Koopas and others from the opposing faction. As for the latter, the surprise that came out in the video is the presence of Jack Black in the role of Bowser, no less.
Presented by Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri of Illumination, also broadcast live at New York Comic-Con, the trailer allows you to see closely the characterization adopted for characters and settings as well as something of the story. According to the authors, this is a film built by Mario fans and under the supervision of Miyamoto and Koji Kondo to try to keep as faithful as possible to the classic vision of video games.
The story seems to follow a classic plot, with Bowser intent on attacking a castle populated by penguins and starting an “epic” battle, so to speak. From here, the villain par excellence takes possession of a star, with which he evidently carries out his plans.
In the next scene we see Mario appear instead, who suddenly finds himself in the middle of the Mushroom Kingdom, greeted by a decidedly high Toad. Super Mario Bros. The Film is expected to arrive in cinemas on April 7, 2023. From what we can see in this trailer, the film seems to capture the atmosphere of video games quite well, however, with a truly remarkable technical achievement.
