From the holy Gospel according to Saint John 20, 19 – 23
On the evening of the day of the resurrection, the doors of the house where the disciples were found being closed for fear of the Jews, Jesus appeared among them and said to them: “Peace be with you.” Having said this, he showed them his hands and his side. When the disciples saw the Lord, they were filled with joy.
Again Jesus said to them: “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” After saying this, he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Those whose sins are forgiven will be forgiven; and those who are not forgiven will remain unforgiven.”Lord’s word.
Has arrived. The breath of the Spirit that inspired the early Church, which is the same one that was poured out on each of us on the day of our Baptism. It’s here. We have lived Easter. Today, fifty days after Easter, we crown this time: Easter culminates in this Pentecost Easter. The Risen Lord gives his Spirit to the disciples; The risen and ascended Lord sends his Spirit to the first Christian community. The Spirit is, therefore, the mature fruit of the Easter of Jesus.
We may not even know it, but all of us who celebrate Pentecost today are celebrating a family celebration. Pentecost It is, in fact, the day on which the Church was born, the day on which the Spirit of Jesus took hold of some fearful disciples and launched them into the world, the day on which Jesus was preached as Lord for the first time and began to offer forgiveness of sins to everyone who believed in him… after his resurrection and the brief stay among his disciples, Jesus ascended to heaven with God, physically disappearing from the world to let his place be occupied, at the same time, by his witnesses and his spirit; and from both the Church was born!
Without the Spirit of God we cannot pray to God. One of the gifts of the Spirit is precisely the gift of piety, through which we can feel like children of God and harmony and softness are created to listen to God and welcome Him and to turn to Him and speak to Him in the same way as the confident way in which Jesus spoke. to the father. «And the proof that you are sons is that God sent into you the Spirit of his Son, who cries: Abba! Father!” (Gal 4,6).
Without the Spirit of God we cannot desire God. There are many psalms that speak of the thirst for God. It would be good to reread them in this Pentecostal key, e.g. Psalm 42 or Psalm 63. May we always desire that living water.
Without the Spirit of God we cannot bear witness to God. It is the Spirit that helps us fulfill the mission that God has entrusted to us. Thanks to Him, we can be a reference for others, so that when they see us, they know that we are believers. In what we say and what we do
The apostle Paul uses the image of the body to talk about the Church. Because also in the body each member has its function. And they all depend on each other. And, if a foot or a tooth hurts, the whole body is uncomfortable. In this Church of ours, holy and sinful, it is the Spirit that keeps us united. The various charismas, the graces received from God, help us form a single body. We’re different. But we are equal.
COME, HOLY SPIRIT TO RENEW THE FACE OF THE EARTH!!!
