Summer is the season of chasing to be beautiful and perfect, but not everyone is aware of the risks that can hide behind ‘pricks’ and touch-ups. Specialist Roberto Valeriani takes stock. “Any medical treatment must be carried out in an authorized structure, such as medical practices and clinics. Medical treatments cannot be performed in beauty centres: there are parameters to be respected, furthermore the famous hyaluronic acid needles are still class 3 medical devices, therefore they must only be carried out by doctors or dentists”, warns Valeriani, a specialist in reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery, who sheds light on aesthetic medicine treatments which are increasingly discovered to be carried out illegally, in unsuitable structures and by non-medical personnel.
“Before any medical treatment – specifies Valeriani – there is a preliminary visit and an informed consent which explains to the patient the type of treatment, the limits and possible complications. They are not simple ‘pricks’. You have to know how to do them, both for certainty that for the desired result”, he points out. The doctor therefore recommends avoiding unsuitable facilities that offer ‘easy adjustments’. And for minors who want to approach this world, Valeriani strongly advises against starting these treatments for aesthetic purposes only. “If it is ever necessary to do so, for reasons of correction of congenital pathologies or consequences of trauma”, it should be done “always and only after informed consent signed by both parents”, recommends the specialist.
Which concludes: “A healthy lifestyle, good nutrition and attention to sun exposure are excellent allies of medicine and cosmetic surgery to preserve the skin from aging.”
