The coalition negotiations between the SPD, Greens and FDP are stalling. Because: Annalena Baerbock and Christian Lindner are apparently far apart when it comes to services for asylum seekers.
Munich / Berlin – You will have to pay dearly for a traffic light coalition with the FDP. The head of the Liberals, Christian Lindner, will negotiate far-reaching concessions with the SPD around Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz and the Greens around Annalena Baerbock. The political observers in Berlin were already in agreement on this after the federal election in 2021 (September 26) and when the exploratory talks began.
Coalition negotiations: Greens and FDP disagree on asylum policy
According to reports, the three parties were not in agreement on some issues at the beginning of November. Lindner recently criticized the Ampel partners for their tax policy. Specifically: While the FDP continues to consider relief for the “working middle” to be possible, the SPD and the Greens do not want to rule out tax increases. It is “a myth that relief for the working middle class can only be financed with compensatory tax increases elsewhere,” said Lindner Picture on sunday.

The SPD and the Greens, on the other hand, want to tax top earners higher in order to relieve low earners. The FDP rejects this. Now there is apparently the next point of contention. Because when it comes to the question of benefits for asylum seekers, the Greens and the FDP are apparently far apart. That reports the IMAGE. To classify: The right to asylum in Germany is regulated in Article 16a (1) of the Basic Law. Politically persecuted people therefore enjoy the right of asylum. According to the Federal Statistical Office, slightly more than 1,856 million so-called protection seekers were living in Germany in 2020.
Coalition negotiations: SPD, Greens and FDP disagree on asylum policy, on taxes and rents
The topic has a corresponding scope. As the IMAGE writes, the Greens want to abolish the so-called Asylum Seekers Benefits Act.
That means: Asylum seekers would then get the Hartz IV standard rate of 446 euros per person. According to the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, on the other hand, those seeking protection receive a maximum of 364 euros per person for “necessary needs”. Furthermore, the Greens demand that asylum seekers receive a full right to all medical services that social welfare recipients are entitled to. The FDP rejects all of this, according to the report.

In addition to taxes and asylum policy, other issues remain. For example, the subject of housing and rent. The SPD and the Greens imagine stricter rent regulations, the FDP is against it.
The three parties emphasize in unison that the new federal government should be in place before Christmas. Then at the latest they want to replace the current executive cabinet of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU). Until then, however, the SPD, the Greens and the FDP still have to clear many points of conflict aside on the way to the traffic light coalition. (pm)
