The Sudanese opposition wants to turn next Saturday, October 30, into a new day of protests against the coup that occurred last Monday in Sudan.
The opposition coalition Forces for Freedom and Change called on Thursday to demonstrate in different parts of the world, coinciding with the convocation next Saturday in Sudan to denounce the military coup.
“All protests will begin at 12:00 local time in each country and will end at 3:00 pm. Afterwards, some documents will be delivered to the governments, parliaments and organizations, whether local or international” of the different cities where they have taken place. called the protests, according to a statement.
Cities targeted by the call to demonstrate “in rejection of the treacherous military coup” include Washington, New York, Madrid, London, Brussels, Geneva and Sydney, among others.
The document referred to by the opposition will include demands to recognize the government of the deposed prime minister, Abdullah Hamdok, as “legitimate”, as well as the “release of all detained civilian government leaders and other politicians.” In addition, a message to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt to “cease the blatant interference in the internal affairs of Sudan.”
Several Western countries and the United Nations have condemned the coup led by General Abdel-Fattah Burhan that ousted Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok and his government.

UN calls for the release of political detainees
Volker Pethers, the United Nations special representative for Sudan, met with General Burhan on Wednesday. According to a United Nations statement, Pethers asked the head of the military for “the release of all political detainees” and “respect for the right to peaceful protest.”
The UN representative also urged him to immediately begin “a dialogue with the ousted prime minister.”

In the same statement, the international organization indicates Pethers and six European ambassadors were able to meet with Abdullah Hamdok at his residence and that “he is in good health.” The representative of the United Nations also requested that Hamdok regain his full freedom.
The United Nations Security Council expressed “grave concern about the military takeover in Sudan” and urged the country’s military authorities to restore the transitional civilian-led government.
