Al-Burhan called for expanding the participation of political parties in the transitional government, and the formation of a legislative council that represents all the people, “except for the National Congress.”
Al-Burhan refused to hold the military responsible for the worsening security situation in the country, including the crisis of closures in eastern Sudan; He blamed the civilian component. He made it clear during his address to a group of soldiers and officers in a military area north of Khartoum that they are seeking to make the transitional period a success.
In recent weeks, the crisis between the two sides of the transitional government in Sudan has worsened, amid reports that three initiatives led by political figures failed at the end of last week to persuade the civil and military sides to sit together to find solutions to the urgent problems facing the country, foremost of which is the crisis in eastern Sudan.
According to an informed source, after a meeting with representatives of the military section in the Sovereignty Council, Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok stressed the need to adhere to the constitutional document that governs the current transitional period in which Sudan became involved after the overthrow of the Bashir regime in a popular revolution in April 2019.
With about a month left to hand over the presidency of the Sovereignty Council to civilians; Al-Burhan said that the armed forces will protect the transitional period until free and fair elections are reached in which the Sudanese people choose who governs them.
The head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council accused some political forces of trying to occupy public opinion by fabricating problems with the armed forces and rapid support and questioning their two nations, and getting them into dilemmas impeding the political transition, which these forces caused by refusing dialogue and the participation of the other.
