Car editor Niek Schenk replies: ‘I share your criticism. Of course it is nice that cars offer more and more options thanks to the screens, but there is a danger that the driver is increasingly busy with his screen while driving: searching for Spotify music or setting the navigation, for example. Car brands should think more carefully about how they use the touchscreens and not hide the climate control in an on-screen menu, for example. A physical button that you can operate blindly if necessary is much safer. Fortunately, you can also give voice commands in more and more cars, and those systems are working better and better.’
