They call this morning a concentration at the doors of the Consistory; The mayor assures that the positions will continue in the fairgrounds due to the Covid
Street vendors from the weekly market plan to demonstrate today at the gates of the City Hall to demand that the local government allow the stalls to be re-installed next to the Hero factory and in the Campoamor neighborhood. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the City Council decided to change the location of the fairgrounds to guarantee security measures.
Magdalena Valero, who runs one of the posts, assured that “we want to return to the usual location, where there is closer proximity to the neighbors. The City Council only wants the weekly market to disappear, and the proof of this is that there are no longer even half the stalls as before ”.
In total, the market has 252 stalls. The Councilor for Commerce and Employment, Mariola Alegría, assured yesterday that “the celebration of this market is held at the fairgrounds, as agreed by the May Plenary, to guarantee the safety of customers, merchants and visitors, since this The zone allows emergency services, such as ambulances, firefighters and Local Police, to access without obstacles in case they have to intervene ”. He added that “another of the advantages offered by the Entrevías area is that it is a diaphanous and sufficiently spacious space, in which the installation of the posts does not cause noise or annoyance to the neighbors, nor is it necessary to cut streets”.
The mayor recalls that the fairground “is an esplanade of almost 16,000 square meters in the Alcantarilla center, where the 252 street stalls have been established since the beginning of the pandemic. And every week almost 6,000 people visit it ». He added that “unifying all the positions in the enclosure has been a success, since during the pandemic it guaranteed enough space so that all traders could work without the need to establish shifts.”
