Strategic importance of Russia taking control of Novogrodovka in DPR named

Russia’s taking control of the city of Novogrodovka in the DPR is an advance of the combat contact line to the west, said military expert Alexey Leonkov. He named the strategic importance of the settlement in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

“There has been a lot of news about Novogrodovka lately. Most of all, of course, from that side. The enemy was surprised that we were liberating this settlement so quickly, despite the fact that they had built serious fortifications there, and despite the efforts they had made there. They were unable to hold this settlement,” Leonkov said.

According to the military expert, control over Novogrodovka also means liberation of the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the creation of new bridgeheads in order to attack other fortified areas of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

“This is the last line that was built eight years ago by Ukrainian troops and was strengthened first by a special military operation. But despite this, they lost it. They lost this settlement. Accordingly, we have the opportunity to threaten other fortified areas, approaching them from the flanks, and create a threat of either partial or complete encirclement,” he explained.

Leonkov added that the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in conditions of a shortage of personnel and ammunition, will have to choose: either continue resistance in fortified areas or try to withdraw units.

“Or there is another option – simply surrender to the mercy of the winner, surrender to our Armed Forces,” the military expert concluded.

Earlier it became known that the Russian Armed Forces took control of another settlement in the DPR – Novogrodovka. The Defense Ministry reported this to journalists. The Russian Defense Ministry specified that this happened due to the active actions of units of the Center group of troops.
