The journey of Stranger Things 4 it brought us back and then inevitably and abruptly propelled us forward. Returning to Hawkins after three years ago had a certain effect, as well as rediscovering the characters that made us dream so much, grown and changed, but still easily recognizable. The plot then advances, we talked about it in depth in the our review, opening up entirely new paths, and above all by deepening the various dynamics faced in the course of previous years. This, for now, is the most important feature of the new story arc: its ability to to take from the past explaining it the reasons, to then move along unpublished paths closely linked to what has been told so far. Divided into two volumesfor now we have only been able to savor the first part, released on May 27 on the catalog Netflix. Waiting for the second volume, the first of Julywe began to think about what we have seen so far, speculating on what awaits us in the two episodes that will conclude this narrative arc, waiting for the final closure with the fifth season.
Stranger Things 4 certainly still has a lot to say, yet with everything we’ve seen so far requests remain, accompanied by a large number of mysteries ready to be revealed. Hopefully. In function of this we have decided to tell you what are ours theories towards this season finale, reflecting on what we have seen and then drawing our very personal vision on it. There is so much to reflect on and still so much to tell, there is no doubt, but this is precisely one of the most fascinating elements of this TV series.
Warning: from here on there will be spoilers related to Stranger Things 4. For this reason we suggest you do not continue reading until you have finished the vision yourself.
What do we know so far, and what could happen?
This Stranger Things 4 splits its narrative into distinct roads, drawn from the events of the various characters. It is therefore good to reflect on the individual roads and on the probable individual developments before going into a univocal ending. A division of this kind therefore offers us more ideas: on the one hand we find the history of adultscurrently engaged in Russia to save the life of Hoppersurvived the third season finale, then we have the group in California intent on reuniting with Undi following the various attempts on their lives, we have Undi herself trying to recover her powers in a secret base and the group of characters left behind Hawkinsintent on finding an answer to the current threat.
Let’s start with the events that frame adults. In Russia Hopper was taken prisoner following the events we know, locked up in a sort of Lager and forced to perform forced labor in a cold and hard context. Here he comes into contact with a corrupt guard, Enzo, with whom he arranges a plan to escape and reunite with Joyce. His story allows us not only to pursue a minimum reasoning about the role of the Russians within Stranger Things and the way in which they are framed, but also to deepen the emotional dynamics between these two characters. Due to a betrayal Hopper will not be able to escape him, ending up caged in the ugliest part of this prison area. Here the inmates are sacrificed as a meal for one Demogorgonin a kind of arena in which the life of the inmates is taken from them while they are still standing. Following the clash we see Joyce, Murray and Hopper finally reunite and now, presumably, they will have to find a way to leave. Since the guards are on alert and the monster left to itself behind a huge steel gate, we will likely see our heroes attempting a mad escape being chased not only by the Russian army, but by the monster itself. We could even go so far as to hypothesize a much more dramatic ending, with the monster freeing itself by escaping into the world without any reproductive limit, thus triggering something apparently secondary and with a longer-term impact. Or perhaps the classic sacrifice of one of the protagonists to allow the others to leave, maybe it will be Enzo himself to sacrifice himself thinking of his son.
Speaking instead of the group of characters we have seen in California (Will, Mike, Jonathan and Argyle), for now there isn’t much to say and speculate on. In this story arc we first saw them chased byAmerican armyused as target practice to discover Undi’s location, and then try in every way to reach the girl (with the involvement of Suzie). Theirs is the narrative arc with fewer events for now, even if from a specific point of view we can find a little something to hypothesize. Their journey currently moves in the direction of Undi. Once she finds it, we don’t know how she will react and how they will react. We can only speculate on the relationship with Mike and on the way Jonathan he will act later, once reunited with Nancy. Probably in the last two episodes we will once again see these characters mature, or in any case try to evolve from their previous beliefs, stimulated by the events and by the other protagonists.
The story of Undi, on the other hand, it remains the most interesting both from a general and a subjective point of view. In this Stranger Things 4 we first saw her attempt to shape her life by following the masses, and then literally return to hers. origins without cutting out the worst moments. In the last few episodes, we’ve seen her face a few memories which he kept buried deep within himself, and with these came new answers regarding the current threat, al Upside down and its own past. His current job is to restore his powers. It is an inner research modeled by the support of a specialized team and his own Dad. In the season finale we will have in our hands a protagonist who is certainly more aware of herself and of what she faced as a child. Perhaps she will have regained her powers by preparing for the confrontation with Vecna/001, with the idea of putting an end to everything. The story of Hawkins’ laboratory still remains the most fascinating of the entire series, and with the latest insights, new question marks have opened up about the very origins of the Upside Down. We have seen Undi send us 001, although we still don’t know how. Yet the way to such a character seems clear enough. We have seen her a lot of times out of context and place and now she has finally found what his existential role is. The confrontation could lead to a sacrifice, perhaps avoided at the last minute by the love of friends and family. Hoping that all the knots come to a head if not now in the future. Another hypothesis would see it do not recover the powers involving everything that others have discovered about Vecna, in a more complex confrontation.
With the group of Hawkinsinstead, we are faced with a slice of the plot a little more knotted. In Stranger Things 4 we saw Hawkins herself shrouded in the craziest fear in relation to the terrible murders that now plague her nooks and crannies. All this affected the community itself, expanding the reasoning of the plot about the town. The fear of an unknown evil, pointing the finger without having any evidence on the hands and trying to do justice to oneself, have highlighted a side of this very classic series and at the same time consistent with what has been faced up to now. In this chaos our (Nancy, Dustin, Max, Steve, Eddie and Robin) have tried in every way to identify the new evil that haunts them, in an investigation that we have also seen in the past made up of strokes of luck and of genius. It will be their plot ad identify what you are facing, telling the origins of Vecna / 001 and contextualizing them from episode to episode.
After having divided into two subgroups (one in the Upside down and one outside) the situation remained suspended at the origins of the aforementioned villan. In the last two episodes of Stranger Things 4 we will understand if Nancy he will lose his life or not, even trying to identify a way to escape from the clutches of this monster, in addition to music. Having left Steve and Nancy alone, especially after their developments sentimentalwe could hypothesize their definitive rapprochement, to then detach in the future. The entire first volume has done nothing but scream at us their mutual attraction, without ever going beyond the looks and the unspoken. With them we also discovered some more details on the Sottosopra, a detail that is linked to what has been told. Surely the series will continue to deepen their dynamics and then reconnect everything to those of the other characters. Their return together is not too obvious, even if the current state of Jonathan might suggest just that. Speaking of the others, however, everything they have seen and learned will certainly come back through Nancy, in some way, becoming the leitmotif of subsequent developments, also in relation to the fear that has invaded Hawkins herself.
Then?
Based on everything we have seen in Stranger Things 4, a nice season finale is expected for July 1st. There length of the episodes could hide a flood of developments, binding both to our assumptions and to completely unexpected choices. It remains clear that the authors are pursuing everything following a consistency that still exists works and that sooner or later he will find a seal with the assembled group. There they will play all out with a battle that does not only involve the supernatural dimension but especially that one personal. We have yet to understand Undi’s role in everything we’ve seen, merged with how individual characters will react after learning what she did. Love, good and anger will be at the center of it all, in a series that has always carefully honed its characters.
