According to the actor, the Duffer brothers sent him an email in early 2020 so that he would have a character. Without seeing the script, he accepted; however, after receiving the lines from him, he changed his perspective of what he was going to do.

“They texted me and asked if I knew how to play guitar. I told them yes. That was about two months into the pandemic, and then a month later they sent me the last script. There I understood the reason for the question, ”she shared.
Seeing what kind of scenes he would have, and after knowing the moment he was going to star with Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), he decided to revive his musical skills.
“I was like ‘Are you serious?’ They were like, ‘yeah’. And I thought ‘okay’. So I went, bought a guitar, and then practiced furiously for months. until we ended up filming the scene they saw,” he said.

When asked if he was the one who played in the scene, he confirmed that he was, but that there were certain parts where a double had to intervene.
“I wanted to be realistic in the scene. I’ve played guitar since I was a child, but I’m not an expert. While he had much of the song mastered, we just had to bring in a heavy metal guitarist to complete it. The rest? Yes, I tried and it came out. It was exciting, Gaten and I were playing a Metallica song on a bus. Unbelievable,” he commented.
