The Second Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) decided today (7) to file a complaint filed by the Public Ministry against businessman Jacob Barata Filho in Operation Ponto Final, of the Federal Police (PF), carried out in 2017.
By 3 votes to 1, the collegiate followed the vote of the rapporteur, Minister Gilmar Mendes, to consider the accusation of foreign exchange evasion due to the businessman’s attempt to leave the country with around R$ 40 thousand in foreign currency, in 2017, inept. was arrested at Rio de Janeiro International Airport while trying to board for Portugal.
The process had been suspended since the episode, when the entrepreneur was also benefited by a habeas corpus granted by the rapporteur, and was awaiting a final decision.
Operation Ponto Final was an offshoot of Lava Jato and investigated an alleged scheme to pay bribes to politicians and fraud in contracts between the government of Rio de Janeiro and public transport companies.
