With the Mexico City Grand Prix at the gates, the fifth to last round of the 2021 season inevitably focuses on the world championship challenge between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, still very open to any result as evidenced by the 12 points in the standings that separate the two protagonists of the world, but not only: if at first the Red Bull seemed the absolute favorite for qualifying, as evidenced by the more than convincing results obtained during free practice, the Mercedes he surprised everyone by conquering the entire front row, thus complicating the objectives of the Austrian house in view of the race.
As evidence of how few would have expected a recovery from the Silver arrows, there had been the declarations of the three-time world champion Jackie Stewart, who was the first to see for himself the climate of absolute optimism inside the Red Bull box, having been invited by the Milton Keynes house before qualifying: “There is an impressive spirit and enthusiasm – had analyzed the 82-year-old Scottish – much more than what I’ve seen in McLaren. I went to the latter the day after my visit to Red Bull, but everything is calmer there, and there is less hunger for wins than there is at Red Bull. They are really eager to do this, and have a good chance to succeed. The fight is still open, but I see the Mercedes a little further back: they had some difficulties from a technological point of view, and I think they realized it. Plus, Verstappen is driving really well. I think – he added – that it will be good for the sport if Red Bull wins this year, both in the drivers ‘and constructors’ championship. They worked hard, and I think the audience needs a change ”.
Furthermore, Sir Jackie he had finally expressed a curious more detailed view of his own Lewis Hamilton, with the number 44 which, contrary to the forecasts which later turned out to be incorrect towards Red Bull, instead obtained a result ‘in line’ with what were the sensations of the Scottish champion: “Lewis also drove very well – commented – he is talented and has a lot of experience. Consequently, I believe he still has the right cards to keep this challenge alive. At the same time, it amazes me how his teammate is often faster than him. Also, I think he is considering retiring, as he has a very long career ”.
