The salary received by Carlos Tavares for the year 2023 was not appreciated by some trade unions. Stellantis has in fact once again ended up in the sights of workers' representatives for the compensation received by the Portuguese manager for 2023. The CEO of the group born from the merger between FCA and PSA received an annual salary of 13.5 million euros which a further 10 million euros are added as an incentive for having promoted the company's transformation as a supplier of sustainable technological mobility.
The attack on Stellantis and Tavares
In particular the Fiom-Cgil, which through the mouth of the secretary Michele De Palma who pointed the finger at Tavares: “The numbers are very clear, while the workers are laid off, the CEO of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, only earns 13.5 million in salary plus a bonus of another 10 million. It corresponds to the monthly salary of approximately 12,000 workers. I think a situation like this is unsustainable.”
Tavares' salary in detail
Tavares' compensation is lower than that received in 2022, by around 1.4 million given that last year the CEO of Stellantis received 14.9 million euros. The salary is made up of a fixed part of 2 million euros and a 90% variable part which for 2023 was 11.5 million. However, in 2021, 10 million euros of incentives were approved for the achievement of some phased objectives for the transformation of the company in the field of electric transition and mobility.
Too much gap between workers and CEO
De Palma then took things further, underlining how the group asked the Italian state for aid for production despite the numbers of the CEO's compensation: “How can one expect workers to be told 'let's achieve results together' and 'we are all in the same boat' and then there are the workers of Mirafiori and all the Italian plants on redundancy pay? Public resources are requested to produce in Italy and then there is an intolerable gap in compensation between the workers and the CEO. We have reached a point of no return.”
