This is not a French-led group. John Elkann is sure of this and wanted to reiterate it firmly. The president of Stellantis spoke about the balance within the reality born from the merger between FCA and PSA, highlighting once again how the controversy over an imbalance in favor of France is absolutely unfounded. During a long interview, the Stellantis number one also spoke about the role of Italy and the future of employment, especially in the Mirafiori plant.
Stellantis is not just French
“They said the same thing with the FCA operation: «Now Detroit is in charge». The reality is that Stellantis operates worldwide, – explained Eklann in his interview with Avvenire – it has strong roots in America, France and Italy, and in its top management there are many nationalities: the CEO is Portuguese, the finance manager is American, the head of technology is Croatian. Looking at the brands: the person responsible for the Jeep brand is Italian, that of Peugeot is English, that of Alfa Romeo is French. It is in full respect of national identities that the true strength and richness of Stellantis lies.”
The future of 500 in Mirafiori
The president of Stellantis then focused on the strengthening of production at Mirafiori, with the arrival of the 500 hybrid starting from 2026: “In recent years, Mirafiori has benefited from investments that have allowed the launch of activities additional to car production: we have inaugurated the research and testing center on electric batteries, the production of electrified transmissions, the sustainable office campus and the for the circular economy.” In his interview, Elkann also addressed the employment issue, with the lack of turnover denounced by the unions which could lead to an excessive aging of the workforce at the group’s factories without it being able to be adequately replaced: “Carlos Tavares said it clearly: we have shared a plan for Mirafiori and for all Italian factories, which will be able to create new job opportunities for young people.”
