Steam is a great platform for many reasons, but one of the most important is the large amount of features available. Players have the opportunity to do a lot directly inside Steam and now it seems that something new is coming: the recording short gameplay videos directly via the platform.
The information comes from Pavel Djundik, creator of SteamDBthe third-party platform that tracks the latest news from the Valve store and the games it contains.
Steam clips according to Djundik
As you can see in the tweet below, Djundik writes: “Steam is still working on clip recording. Supports background recording, includes timeline markers in supported games for various events. Clips they can be sharedsuch as screenshots, via the Steam community.”
Djundik’s tweet then includes a series of images showing how it might work recording clips on Steam. It would clearly be a very interesting feature as it would allow players who don’t want to mess around with software like OBS Studio to easily get videos to share with friends.
For Steam and publishers/developers it is also a great way to get free advertising. In any case, this is not a revolutionary function, given that it has been the norm on consoles for a couple of generations. We will have to understand what the quality of the recordings is, the time limits and how easy it will be to export and work on the files.
Among the other Valve innovations in development behind the scenes there is also Deadlock: hundreds are already playing it.
