Valve against cryptocurrencies.
A series of video games published on Steam is about to receive a “crackdown”, according to the latest guidelines of the platform disclosed by Valve. We are talking about the securities based on the so-called blockchain, a system that favors the in-game exchange of NFT (non-fungible-token), with the aim of monetizing.
The developers of Age of Rust, an FPS currently in development, said on Twitter that they became aware of these new lines from Valve, thus making it impossible to publish their game on the platform: Age of Rust in fact rewards players with NFT. The Steam communication states “What cannot be published: applications based on blockchain technology that allow the exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs.“
Community: A few minutes ago, we were notified that @Steam will be kicking * all blockchain games * off the platform, including Age of Rust, because NFTs have value. Behind the scenes, we’ve had good communication and have been upfront with Steam. #blockchaingames #NFT

The developer goes on to say that, bitter as it is that this means that Age of Rust will not see the light on Steam, the main issue is the fact that now all titles based on these elements or that include this type of mechanics within themselves will be removed from the platform, such as The Sandbox or The Six Dragons, an MMO.
The vision of Steam is therefore contrary to the presence of objects, even if not physical, that can have a real value within the games on its store. We will now see how other platforms will act in this regard, such as Epic Games Store, which could decide to welcome these now “orphaned videogame products.”
