An oversized statue of a naked Trump is causing controversy. Apparently the work is on a tour through the USA – and is intended to stimulate thought.
Phoenix – The statue of a naked man rises thirteen meters high Donald Trump’s from a private property in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, USA. The former US president in the image appears unflattering: an old man with overweight and loose skin. A few days earlier, the work had been seen in Las Vegas – and caused outrage among the Republican Party. According to organizers, the image of the Republican is on a tour of the United States.
Trump statue causes a stir before the US election: Provocative installation discovered in Arizona
The statue was first seen on September 28th in a fenced area near Interstate 15 north of Las Vegas, Nevada. Shortly afterwards it was ordered that the statue should be removed, according to a statement from the responsible district of Clark County on platform X. The Nevada Republican Party “strongly condemned” the action, it said in a statement Press statement was called. “As families drive through Las Vegas, they are forced to watch this offensive puppet intentionally designed for shock value rather than meaningful dialogue,” it continued.
A few days later, Trump’s image reappeared in Phoenix, Arizona. It was discovered on Thursday morning (October 3) on a property behind a marijuana shop, media reported. The image of the ex-president, which weighs around 2,700 kilograms, dangles from a crane and the arms are movable. It was initially not known who exactly the artists behind this idea were. The owner of the property in Phoenix does not want the installation to be seen as a political statement. It was simply a financial transaction. “I’m like Switzerland, brother,” the man told the US media Axios.
Tour planned through the USA: Statue of naked Donald Trump is titled “Corrupt and Obscene”
The “work of art” quickly became an attraction in Phoenix. Passersby stopped by to get a closer look at the foam Trump. Some people apparently didn’t know exactly how to classify the presentation. “It’s a statement, of course, but there’s no text that says anything about Trump or anything like that,” one of the passers-by told the medium Independent and added: “I think it’s an interesting work of art.” The title “Crooked and obscene” could help with the interpretation of the work. In German, “crooked” can be translated as crooked, but also as corrupt – “Corrupt and obscene” would therefore be the German title.
The organizers gave the US media Wrap an interview but wanted to remain anonymous. The depiction is therefore a “bold statement about transparency, vulnerability and the public personalities of political figures.” The work is intended to stimulate a discussion about “transparency – or the lack thereof – in politics and to encourage viewers to think critically about politics “Influence to think about,” it continued. Trump himself often uses the word “crooked” to defame his political opponents, such as the US President Joe Biden. A request from Axios to Donald Trump’s campaign team initially went unanswered.
It was initially not known in which US cities the statue will be seen next. The previous exhibition locations Nevada and Arizona are among the so-called swing states in the USA. In these US states, none of the political parties has a clear majority, so they are particularly hotly contested and can potentially be decisive in the election. In Surveys to US election lies the Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in Nevada currently (as of October 5, 2024) with 47.8 percent, slightly ahead of Trump, who has 46.9 percent. The republican however, has in Arizona With 48.1 percent, a lead of 1.4 percentage points over Harris. (bme)
