San Juan Puerto Rico.- After this week 114 cases of monkey poxas well as about 40 suspected cases, the Governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi, declared a state of emergency due to the spread of this disease in the country.
This decision will allow the Ministry of Health to implement new public safety measures, so The president signed an executive order instructing that all the financial resources necessary to attend to the emergency be assigned to the health portfolio.
“This reality requires that all components of society join forces in order to prevent the contagion and spread of monkeypox,” reads the decree that lasts 30 days.
The president of Puerto Rico emphasized the importance of the decree to “guarantee the necessary resources to strengthen the surveillance, detection, prevention, vaccination and corresponding treatments in order to attend to the spread of this disease with the promptness and efficiency that it deserves”.
