The projects selected by StartCup Lombardia are Gymnasio, Komete, Ttop and Synergy Flow, the competition organized by the Universities and University Incubators of Lombardy and promoted by the Lombardy Region – General Directorate for Economic Development Councilor Guido Guidesi, with the coordination of PoliHub – Innovation Park
Startup Accelerator of the Politecnico di Milano. To evaluate the best projects, a committee chaired by the Lombardy Region and made up of representatives of venture capital. Also for this XIX edition there were 4 winning projects in the four different categories – Ict & Services, Industrial Technologies, Life Science & Medtech and Cleantech & Energy – to which an economic contribution of 25 thousand euros each goes to support their development.
Particularly, the Gymnasio project (Ict & Services) is an AI-powered adaptive system for home fitness that tracks movements during workouts and provides personalized workouts. The award rewards the ‘state of progress of the project, supported by a solid validation process’. The Komete project (Industrial Technologies) – IoT platform which transforms manufacturing companies into Smart Factory, created to make the transition to industry 4.0 easy and accessible by manufacturing SMEs and raise the safety standard in the factory. The project was able to “combine innovation with family tradition”.
Another project is Ttop (Life Science & Medtech), a modular and versatile platform, able to replicate the complex physiology of the human organism, making the development process of new drugs more efficient and minimizing the use of animal models. Particularly appreciated “the ambition of the project and the team”. In the end the Sinergy Flow (Cleantech & Energy) project – proposes an innovative battery for medium and large scale stationary energy storage. The flow cell battery (Rfb) uses the sulfur-rich waste from the petrochemical industry, guaranteeing a low installation cost and high performance, in full compliance with the principles of the Circular Economy. The “team and the very high potential impact of the idea, from a Circular Economy point of view” are the reasons for the recognition.
Ferruccio Resta, Rector of the Politecnico di Milano, commented that “StartCup Lombardia reconfirms an unmissable appointment for local universities, an extraordinary pool of new business ideas oriented to the key themes of economic recovery. In fact, the four categories of the competition reflect the key points of national research and innovation policies: from digital to sustainability, from life sciences to industrial technologies. An exceptional moment for the Italian territories to affirm their vocation from a competitive perspective that aims to enhance excellence “. “A constant commitment for the Politecnico di Milano, coordinator of the StartCup thanks to its PoliHub incubator, alongside the institutions and ready to take on new challenges “added Resta.
Guido Guidesi, Councilor for Economic Development of the Lombardy Region, he also stressed that “through this initiative we try to support and ground innovative and winning ideas, transforming them into related activities and job opportunities”. “We are the Lombardy Region and we want to continue to be the home of ideas. Anyone who has an idea, anyone who wants to play their challenge must know that they find space and support in Lombardy “remarked Guidesi. Finally Andrea Sianesi, president of PoliHub, he argued that “the heterogeneity of skills coming from the different Lombard universities has more than ever made it possible to have valuable projects in this edition of StartCup Lombardia. An important signal that demonstrates how networking between universities and incubators
and the Lombardy Region work and be a solid foundation on which to work to do more and more to enable today’s students to be the entrepreneurs of tomorrow. “
