The campaign for Star Citizen has raised a titanic figure from millions of supporters.
Star Citizen has been financed, up to now, by 3.3 million people who put together a record figure of 400 million dollars, thus making Star Citizen the second product with the highest crowdfunding campaign in history (the first is Ethereum’s EOS, which surpassed 4 billion).
The development studio Cloud Imperium Games also released a couple of other data: on the day of November 19 alone almost 900 thousand dollars were added, and in the month of October alone more than 8 million. By March, the campaign had hit $ 350 million, and in just a few months they came up with a new round figure – astonishing, knowing that the campaign began at the beginning of the last decade.
The long and controversial development of Star Citizen has seen several times Chris Robertson, project leader, under accusations of failing to develop the game, especially providing and meeting a launch date. Nine years later, Star Citizen is still in Alpha. Even its standalone campaign Squadron 42 remains in Alpha, a full seven years after the initial release forecast.
At the moment, the only indications on the timing concern the updates: the 3.16 update should arrive by the end of the year, the 3.17 update in the first three months of 2022 and the 3.18 update in the following three months.
Meanwhile, Cloud Imperium Games is waiting for next May to move to the new studio in Manchester.
