Fifth generation of the SsangYong Rexton, with new exterior and interior design and 7 seats, from 38,200 euros
The new Rexton is an evolution of the fourth generation launched in 2018, which was quite a demonstration of what SsangYong is capable of doing in the upper segment SUV segment. The success of the Rexton is based on offering a vehicle with a large interior space, comfortable, safe, with a high level of technological equipment and with off-road capabilities above the average for the segment, thanks to its robust chassis with longitudinal members and crossmembers, the connectable all-wheel drive with central differential lock and to be one of the few vehicles in this segment to be equipped with a reduction gear. And also, at significantly lower prices than its leading competitors from the big German brands. The new SsangYong Rexton is available in three versions: Pro, for 38,200 euros; Premium, from 42,800 euros and Limited, from 50,800 euros; all versions have a 5-year warranty.
The new SsangYong Rexton remains true to these qualities, with high ride comfort and now much improved safety equipment, more technology and better performance. The design has been renewed in search of a more elegant image with greater dynamism. But the new Rexton does not change in its dimensions, with an overall length of 4.85 meters and a long wheelbase of 2.86 m, it is capable of comfortably accommodating seven passengers. Its width is 1.96 m and it has a height of 1.82 m. The interior of the new Rexton offers a high quality of materials and finishes, with a new central console with electronic control to manage the gearbox, a flattened sports steering wheel at the bottom and a large digital screen as the instrument panel, in full color and customizable.

The new Rexton mounts the new e-XDi 220 turbodiesel engine, with four cylinders in line and 2.2 liters of displacement, which develops 202 horsepower, 21 more than that of the model it replaces, and a maximum torque of 441 newton-meter, 21 more than that of the Rexton 2018. This engine is associated with an eight-speed electronic automatic gearbox with longer developments, a lower noise level and more precise gear changes to improve performance, consumption and emissions. It also features the ISG Stop & Go system to further reduce fuel consumption and increase safety by automatically selecting the “P” position when the engine stops. Connectable all-wheel drive (on all trims), with low-reduction and locking rear differential on the Limited trim, take the new Rexton’s off-road capabilities to another level and are well above the segment average. In addition, with almost five meters long and a curb weight of between 2,105 and 2,241 kilos depending on the equipment version, the new Rexton obtains a minimum average consumption record of only 7.7 liters per hundred kilometers and is capable of reach a maximum speed of 184 km/h.
SsangYong’s extensive experience in all-wheel drive is embodied in the plug-in 4×4 system that equips the new Rexton. Under normal conditions, the Rexton will circulate in «2H» mode, transmitting its power through the rear wheels, which are the ones on which the maximum weight falls during acceleration and starting, thus maximizing the traction capacity with respect to a front-wheel drive. When ground conditions get tough, the driver can change the drive mode and switch to 4×4. In asphalt areas with slippery surfaces or dirt tracks without great difficulties, the «4H» mode (all-wheel drive for high speed) offers safety and greater traction capacity, distributing the available torque between both axles at 50%. If the situation gets complicated on very rough terrain and a high level of torque and maximum traction is required, the «4L» mode (all-wheel drive with reduction gear) offers off-road performance typical of a true off-roader, which differentiates the Rexton from the rest of the Large SUVs on the market. The Rexton has a high towing capacity of 3,000 kilos and, to make this use safer, the TSC (Trailer Sway Control) stability system controls the movements of the trailer with respect to the towing vehicle and prevents possible rocking of the car- towing, greatly reducing possible dangerous situations.

SsangYong’s flagship reaffirms its position as an alternative to large SUVs and, at the same time, to large SUVs, due to its great spaciousness and modularity thanks to its seven seats, large 641-litre trunk and bucket seats. the second row folding in proportion 40:60. In the development of this fifth generation of the SsangYong Rexton, special attention has been paid to ride comfort and, specifically, to the reduction of noise and vibrations. Aerodynamics have been improved, through the sealing of four layers in the doors and windows, the chassis separated from the bodywork and different solutions that make it roll smoother and more fluidly. Life on board the Rexton is now easier and more connected, with an automatic motorized opening tailgate, dual-zone climate control, an eight-inch diameter touchscreen multimedia system, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In the safety section, the provision of the new Rexton includes up to 9 airbags, autonomous emergency braking, automatic traffic lane maintenance system, high beam control, blind spot detection system, lane change collision warning , rear cross traffic assistant, safe parking exit warning and a long list of preventive security systems.
