The theory on Squid Game references to the color of the tiles made available to Seong Gi-hun when he is approached by a mysterious gentleman in a suit and tie to try to win money by playing a traditional pastime for children. The protagonist chooses among the colors of the available tiles the blue one, and fans believed that if he chose the red tile, would have had a chance to become a game guard.
The creator of the series during an interview denied this theory, explaining that even the players who chose the red tile, had to fight to stay alive in the diabolical tests.
The colors of the tiles, however, were not chosen randomly, the creator explained that in reality they refer to one ancient Korean legend which tells of how a ghost would offer two handkerchiefs, one red and one blue, saying that the wrong choice would lead to death, when in reality the victim would have been killed by the ghost in any case.
The creator of the series in this way suggests that the fate of the participants would be marked from the beginning, one almost certain death.
