The gastroenterology team at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi was able to successfully perform an accurate endoscopy to break up stones in the bile ducts using the latest endoscopic “SpiGlass” technology for two Emirati patients.
In detail, Dr. Muhammad Karajeh, a consultant of gastrointestinal tract and endoscopy in Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, explained that the first patient visited Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, suffering from severe abdominal pain and jaundice, and clinical examinations showed that she had a large stone stuck in the bile duct, where the location of the stones was determined Using the technique of “SpyGlas” and laser lithotripsy, removing parts of the bile duct, and thus the patient avoided complicated surgery. He pointed out that the patient’s condition is complex, given the size and location of the stones that were fixed in the lower bile duct, and that previous procedures using endoscopy made it difficult to extract stones.
He pointed out that the “spa glass” technology represents a remarkable medical advance that enhances the treatment of complex cases of gallstones, as it provided non-surgical solutions for complex cases through several advantages provided by this technology, including color video filming that helps diagnose the problem and provide appropriate treatment early. .
On her part, Lubna Salem, 34 years old, expressed her gratitude for the result of the treatment she conducted to remove the stones. She said: “I had two previous operations to remove the gallbladder and to dissolve the stones, and they did not work, as my suffering continued with pain and my weight decreased a lot, until I performed the endoscopy using the« Spay Glass’ technique. “And the laser, which ended my long journey of suffering.” And she stressed the importance of providing the latest technology in the field of health care to improve treatment results.
For his part, Sultan Al Shamsi – 47 years old, who underwent five endoscopic procedures, in addition to an operation to remove the gallbladder in another hospital, before being transferred to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City: “Since 2016, several endoscopic procedures have been performed to remove stones stuck in the bile duct,” he said. But the technique used was not able to remove the stones from the bile duct, despite the doctor’s attempts to repeat the experiment to no avail, which forced me to live with pain for five years, and recently I learned about the existence of a modern and accurate technique for complex cases like my own, and thanks to God, I was cured using the «Spay Glass» Without undergoing any surgery ».
Dr. Abdul Qader Al-Musabi, deputy medical director at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City and head of the gastroenterology department, said: “SpiGlass” technology ensures removal of stones by 95%, which eliminates the need for complex surgery, as it provides direct video imaging and high-resolution color images that make it easier for the doctor. Accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment in one session, as it allows for faster diagnosis of tumors and identification of the important parts for obtaining biopsies through direct imaging of hard-to-reach places, compared to endoscopy. ”
He emphasized that the “spa class” technology reduces the need for additional and frequent diagnostic tests, and enables patients to receive treatment early with satisfactory results.
